These baguettes have a perfect, mild oniony taste. They are great for picnics when stuffed with delicious fillings or for serving with soup.
Ingredients
- 1 portion baguette dough
- 2 large onions, finely chopped and fried in butter
- 4½ oz (125 g) strong bread flour (in addition to that in the basic recipe)
- 2 tbsp butter
- Oil for greasing
- 1 large onion, sliced into rings
- Sea salt
How to Make It
- Preheat the oven to 240°C (475°F/gas 9).
- Make the baguettes according to the basic recipe. Knead fried and finely chopped onion into the dough along with the extra flour.
- Shape the dough and let the baguettes rise on a tray according to the basic recipe.
- Slice the other onion into rings.
- Brush the baguettes with water and sprinkle with onion rings and sea salt.
- Immediately place the tray in the middle of the oven.
- When the baguettes have gained a little colour, lower the temperature to 200°C (400°F/gas 6).
- Bake until the breads have been in the oven for a total of around 30 minutes, then let them cool on a rack.
