This is a variation on the borscht recipe you may have seen in my first book, but here we’re doubling down on beets and serving the soup with a crispy beet noodle topping. We’re also blending the soup this time so it’s nice and smooth. I love the way rich beef broth, beets, and lots of herbs and veggies come together for a healthy, comforting bowl. You can always use your own homemade beef broth, but I find that store-bought is just fine, and it makes this recipe a lot more manageable.

To celebrate Halloween, here is a recipe that delights sorcerers both of this world and the next, from that most esteemed authority on the subject of pumpkins: Cinderella’s fairy godmother.
Fresh oats are so different from ‘quick oats’, which are much thinner and broken up to help them cook so quickly; and while these are a convenient time saver they don’t have the flavour of traditional oats. I admit I have succumbed to making a dish of traditional oats in the microwave but my resolve is not to take this shortcut here as the relatively short cooking time on the stove top makes a world of difference to the quality of the porridge. From a flavour perspective, the prunes soaked overnight in orange juice are the icing on the cake,…
There is something timeless about apple and cinnamon, I just love it. This tart is simple and delicious; it’s the perfect Sunday lunch dessert for all the family.
The mixture of crunchy sesame seeds and sharp sherry vinegar makes this a perfect accompaniment for pan-seared fish or grilled flank steak. The Aleppo pepper adds a tiny bit of heat and a lot of complex tart and fruity pepper flavor: Look for it in specialty markets or online. Store, without the vinegar, in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to one day. Stir in the vinegar just before serving.
Crispy Grilled Bread, Tangy-Sweet Grilled Grapes, and Oozy Aged cheese combine for a “give me more” appetizer or light meal. A combination of Cheddar and blue, such as Red Rock Cellar Aged Cheddar Blue from Minnesota, would be fabulous. Serve this with a glass (or two) of bubbly or a dry red wine, such as a pinot noir.
If you are looking for something on the hearty side to pair with your morning eggs or afternoon sandwich fixings, you have found it. This whole-wheat bread is simple and slightly sweet with a touch of honey.

This dish is a quick and easy one, but it feels special because it’s shrimp scampi! Shrimp scampi seems to me like the kind of dish you order when you’re out at a restaurant, so being able to throw together a quick and healthy Paleo version is great. I love the combination of zucchini noodles with butter, garlic, shrimp, and a splash of white wine. Don’t forget the fresh parsley to brighten the whole thing up and make it just as beautiful as it is delicious.
